The fully recyclable running shoe

The fully recyclable running shoe

Adidas have launched a new running shoe that uses fully recyclable materials and zero waste called Futurecraft.Loop.

The game-changing new running shoe uses a newly developed technology in footwear as part of Adidas’ bid to reduce the usage of plastic in their products. The technology utilises a single material (virgin thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) if you’re asking) that enables the shoes to be ground up and reused/made again once finished with. The products arse currently in beta phase and going through testing

Adidas introduced the circular process strategy at the launch event as part of their bid to help to mitigate ocean plastic pollution, which is a huge concern for environmentalists.

Responding to the difficulties faced in recycling the many materials in current shoes, Adidas executive board member Eric Liedtke said, "The solution of the Loop is that it is made of one single material and can be recycled in one dongle process and one stable demonstration – and can be recycled again and again and again," he continued. "It's a statement for us to show to the world that we can do better."

It’s great to see the big brands of today making bold statements for the good of our planet and leading the way in developing the technology. The aim of zero waste from their products is certainly a goal we can get behind. “The future is about giving back”.
